4 Ways Improve Your Home’s Interior

It’s 2018 and the world compared to how it was ten years ago is unrecognizable. From how we dress, to how we navigate the world, to how we shop is entirely new territory. A lot of this has to do with technology, but a surprising amount also has to do with how people are defying the norms of everyday life. This modern way of living stretches into real estate and how homes are sold. Long gone are the days of conventional sales when people would rely on a “for sale” sign in front of their house and expensive interior design. In this day and age, why waste money on expensive home projects when you can log onto Pinterest instead? Here are some DIY tips to improve your home’s interior.

Colorful flower beds

If you’re trying to prepare your home for sale, start with the exterior of the house since it’s the first thing that people see when they show up. Professional landscapers can be very expensive, so why not do it yourself? Something fun and (somewhat) easy to work on is adding in a flower garden. Go to your local flower store and pick out some flowers that are in season. For example, if it’s autumn, choose some colorful mums to plant. Finish the look off with some mulch and even some decorative stones!

Add in additional shelves

It may not be something that people automatically realize, but storage space is an integral part of the home. This works well for bathrooms, kitchens, and even closets. Many online furniture retailers will sell premade wall shelves that you can easily install. Or, if you’re extra craftsy, build, finish, and install a shelf that you made from scratch. Be sure to top it off with some nice looking decorations.

Upcycle used furniture

This is where things get fun. Head over to your local thrift store or check out Craigslist for old and somewhat worn furniture: specifically tables, wooden chairs, and dressers since this isn’t as easy with fabric furniture. Repaint or stain the furniture and add in new touches, like a knob if it’s a dresser or nightstand. However, try to keep it looking simple!

Repaint or re-wallpaper your walls

One of the best ways to increase home values is via a new paint job. Fresh paint inevitably brightens up a room, and it’s a quick and inexpensive fix. Or, if you’re extra savvy, try out an interesting wallpaper. Just make sure that the walls dry properly so that they don’t look sloppier than before you picked up a paint brush. We also suggest sticking with more neutral colors and patterns if you’re selling your home, since anything too quirky can deter potential buyers.
