stunning winter sun december destinations where is tara povey

Going on holiday in December is the perfect time to take a break from the frantic stress of preparing for Christmas (God, I haven’t even STARTED my Xmas shopping yet!). I’ve spent Christmas in places like Indonesia, Brazil, Australia and more. And if you’re just the kind of person that hates Christmas, A.K.A the Grinch, then a December holiday is DEFINITELY for you. You can simply escape Christmas altogether by going to a hot country where they don’t even celebrate the holiday! A winter holiday will leave you relaxed and rejuvenated so that you can prepare for the start of the new year. Here are five winter sun holiday destinations to visit in December.

5 Winter Sun Holiday Destinations to Visit in December

Dubai in December

Dubai is a wealthy city in the United Arab Emirates and December is a great time for sun. The temperature is a little bit cooler, but still plenty warm, and you will find average temperatures in the mid 20’s. There’s no end of exciting activities to do in the sun such as hot air balloon rides above the desert at the sun rises or sand-boarding on the dunes.

You can go on safari in the desert and see the amazing animals that thrive under the extreme conditions. You can play tennis on top of a luxury building, play a round of golf at a luxury resort, or cruise the harbour in a chartered boat. And, of course, there’s all the shopping to be done!

There are plenty of hotels to choose from, and even if you can’t afford to stay at Burj Khalifa (honestly, who can?) you can still explore the beautiful Burj Khalifa Park and see it’s amazing water fountain. You can read more about Dubai here!

Barbados in December

Barbados in the West Indies is a sunny, tropical island destination that is great for a December escape. It’s also where the super talented and all around “boss babe”, Rihanna is from. Spend some time relaxing on the stunning beaches of Turtle Beach or Crystal Cove. You can easily charter a boat, explore the coast and stop to dive or snorkel through shipwrecks.

Spend a day walking along the South Coast Boardwalk where you will find plenty of beaches, cafes, and restaurants to visit. If you love seafood, you’re in for a treat in Barbados. I’m vegetarian so if I ever get the chance to go I’ll be heading straight to somewhere like Island Plates. Read more about Barbados here

December is the ideal time to visit India because the temperatures are a little bit cooler and there is a much lower chance of rain. The country is a fascinating blend of old and new and there are 5,000 years of history to explore. Delhi is the capital city and you can visit Lotus Temple and spend a day exploring the stunning architecture of The Red Fort. Take a trip to Jaipur, Rajasthan to explore the stunning temples in the area.

Hop on an overnight bus trip to Agra to see the iconic landmark of The Taj Mahal (an Instagram MUST, obviously). The state of Kerala is a gorgeous spot to visit, loved by travel bloggers around the world, with its tea plantation, stunning coast and plenty more. The hippy state of Goa has been popular with Western visitors for a long time. A lot of companies actually offer package sun holidays to Goa from the UK.

There is a conservation centre for Aldabra giant tortoises on Curieuse Island and you can see more than 300 of these amazing animals. Head over to of Praslin Island where you will find stunning resorts, beach villas and plenty of other wonderful places to stay. Read more about the Seychelles here.

Mexico is a great place for December sun and you can find plenty of all inclusive hotels and resorts that are easy on the wallet (if that’s what you’re looking for). There are also some incredible hostels, villas and boutique hotels in the more popular parts of Mexico. There are many exciting and cultural things to do in Mexico so you won’t be bored. You can head out on boat trips, go snorkeling or diving, or just relax on the beach.

Try some tequila, visit the wildly colourful local markets, try cliff diving, GORGE yourself on delicious Mexican food and whatever else takes your fancy. Do as much or as little as you like! Places like Tulum, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta and Mexico city have all been extremely popular this year.

Things to do in Luxembourg City: A Delightful Weekend Guide

This roundup of things to do in Luxembourg City was created in collaboration with Visit Luxmbourg, who graciously hosted me on this trip. Imagine if you will, a miniscule wonderland packed with castles, greenery and slate grey rooftops over hues of pastel yellow and pink. A place where everybody speaks four languages, where trams are rainbow, and where electric buses are capable of  driving themselves. It appears this wonderland does exist, my friends… and it’s called Luxembourg. *brief pause for gasps and shock* Landlocked between France, Germany and Belgium, Luxembourg is a micro-country known mostly as a metropolitan hub for civil servants, bankers and pleeeenty of cross-border commuters. As such, it’s no surprise that Luxembourg hasn’t quite acquired the tourist magnetism of its nearby neighbours. But you know me, never one to judge until I’ve seen it for myself! And truthfully, when I was invited to explore Luxembourg City for 24 hours with Vis...

The Perfect 12-Day Northern USA Road Trip Itinerary for Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas

I've said it before but I'll say it again: there's no better way to see the United States than by taking to the road. Road tripping is the ultimate way to explore America, and there's no shortage of options whether you want to travel for 10 days or 10 months. Certain US road trip routes are more popular than others, though; we've all heard of Route 66 and California's Highway 1. You've maybe looked into driving through the American Southwest, or perhaps through New England in the fall. But what about the states that tend to be overlooked? While Utah and California and even Florida have great road trip potential, the truth is that there's something to see in EVERY state in this union. Grand Tetons Which is why my sister and I decided to tackle a slightly less-popular road trip route last summer: we decided we wanted to focus on the northern states that never seem to get enough love. States like Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, and So...
